Two nations are facing food problems in our neighborhoods. Our government just banned exports of wheat with immediate effect.

Some time back we opened up the export of wheat.

The world is facing a huge deficit of wheat due to the Russia Ukraine war and unnatural heatwave in March and April this year.

The production of wheat is barely up to last year. The food security for our own citizens will be under strain.

But this year our farmers got a good price for their produce. Which will help them to meet their expenses with confidence for the next sowing season.

The war has an effect on the world economy as everywhere we are seeing the inflation is above the comfort level of respective central banks.

The cost of food is reaching a level that is unbearable for citizens worldwide. We have a comfortable storage level (each commodity) but the price rise is very high and spontaneous.

This is an opportunity for us to improve the level of production and its storage.

Right now,  our cost of production is high in comparison to the world.

We have many problems with our agriculture in which our small landholding is a major issue, it not only reduces the quantity of the commodity but also its cost for farmers.

The storage of grain is another issue along with cost realization. The cost of storage is high with crops getting rotten and other issues like rats and insecticide.

If we can address these issues with a holistic approach our export and cost realization for the same will increase.

Right now, we need a clear picture of stock holding, we change it as per inflation at that time.

The stock holding limit changes on paper as per notification of the government but farmers can't sell it with profit as the local administration does not listen or give time to them to reduce holding.

The same is true for stockists of commodity, all of a sudden no one can reduce the holding at a time, and it creates uncertainty for all as no one knows what is going to happen with them. Our administration is still living in the era of pre-independence.

Here, due to this we still do not have silos for the storage of food, which we are losing due to unscientific ways of holding or keeping it open.

The cost of holding grains  increases due to this and also harassment for stakeholders

The agriculture sector needs a whole new approach with clarity on stockholding to save each one from harassment.

Other reforms are underway or will be implemented in due course of time. So the same attention is needed for this too.

Clarity and continuity are important for this sector to thrive and make atmanirbhar in every aspect with a major say in the world market.
